The legal arrangement of the right to occupy a house is known as housing tenure. Types of housing tenure include: tenancy, owner occupancy, co-operative housing, condominiums (individual properties in a single building), public housing, squatting, and cohabiting. Residences can be classified by how they are connected to their neighbouring residences and adjoining land. Different types of housing tenure can be used for the same physical type of housing. Connected residents might, for example, be owned by a single entity and leased out by their owner, or owned separately with an agreement covering the relationship between the properties and their common areas.
